Hunan Province
Hunan Province (in simplified Chinese湖南省) is located in the middle area of the
Yangtze River, and since it is located at the southern part of the Dongting
Lake, the province is named as “Hunan”, which has the meaning of “Southern part
of the lake” in Chinese.
The transportation facilities in Hunan are highly comprehensive and there have
been railways, highways, waterways and air transport being set up in Hunan and
it gives a combination of three-dimensional network. In terms of railways, there
are trains connecting Hunan to other places like Guangdong and Beijing. Besides,
within Hunan, there are highways connecting different parts. There are also a
lot of very good airports in many districts in Hunan and frequent planes would
fly from Hunan to other countries.
In fact, Hunan is one of the provinces which have the highest population. By the
end of 2007, Hunan's total population was about 68,057,000 people, and among the
34 provinces and cities in the country, it ranks the 7th. Hunan is one of the
most densely populated provinces, with an average of 319 people occupying a
square kilometer, which is double of the national average population density.
The urban population of the province was 27,529,100 people, and the rural
population was 40,527,900 people. The elderly population accounts for 8.98
percent of the province's population. In 2007, the province's birth rate was
11.96 ‰ and the population mortality rate was 6.71 ‰. On the other hand, the
natural population growth rate was 5.25 ‰.
In fact, the economic development of Hunan province is quite good in recent
years. As China is opened up more and more in recent years, more people go to
visit Hunan Province and the consumption increased. Then, people would receive a
higher rate and then, they would consume more. This cycle is very essential and
helpful for the development of Hunan’s economy.
Of course, another important reason for Hunan’s development is that education is
provided to many of the people. As the educated population increase among the
overall population, they would be able to take up higher positions and this
allows them make more money and help increase the GDP of the province. |
